Ecommerce News Roundup | 28 March 2023
As we all try to get our heads around the implications of GPT/LLMs it looks like there are two things that can be stated with confidence and we are going to allow ourselves the naughty treat of making a prediction (we try to steer clear of any predictions in this newsletter).
Thing 1 - LLMs are going to make a huge and accelerated change to business (amongst other things). In particular, software costs will plummet.
Thing 2 - It is impossible to know what the future will be like. It is fairly easy to think of what will be threatened but less easy to say what will be created. 60% of jobs today did not exist in 1945.
Hypothesis - Accepting that LLMs are going to be super-efficient at synthesizing concepts (thinking) then the only competitive advantage will come from gathering private first party data. Having a two way relationship with your customers (and maybe your suppliers) will become exponentially more important.
If you want a long read on GPT then Reid Hoffman has collaborated with GPT4 to write a book on the subject...
